We at the ASRC have been working to develop resources and are conducting activities throughout the state of Connecticut to benefit those on the autism spectrum and their family members.
Among our recent accomplishments, we have provided and continue to develop:
- A parent and family support group system
- A support group for older teens and adults with ASD
- Training for both families and professionals:
- Conferences for families and professionals
- Long-term professional study groups
- Workshops presented to community agencies, groups, and schools
- We offer an educational advocacy series for parents and others advocating for children and teens on the spectrum.
In 2010 we will begin to offer this series at several different locations in CT.
- Community awareness:
- Resource Fair for families and professionals
- Serving on statewide committees and agency boards
- Media coverage of disability issues
- Educating legislators on the need for state-funded services
- Statewide information network:
- Phone referrals and information dissemination
- A Statewide Autism Spectrum Resource Guide book - available in English and Spanish
- Library of printed (and other media) materials
- This website
- School/Camp Brochures
- Provision of services:
- Recreation programs for teens and young adults
- Social skills groups for teens
- Mentoring services offered for teens and adults
- Continual development of new resources and expansion of existing programs
- Development of assorted printed info. for families in Spanish
